Introducing Director Elyssa Freedman. Elyssa Freedman brings a lifetime of experience in
the American musical theatre to the Newton Youth Players. Currently, the Scenery
Coordinator of the summer production of “My Fair Lady” Elyssa has for many years
worked with Melissa Bernstein co-directing the Zervas Elementary School 5th grade musicals.
Elyssa comes to the Broadway musical repertoire having had the privilege of
growing up with a grandfather who played violin in the orchestra pit of many Broadway
shows. Having been exposed to Broadway at an early age, Elyssa, as a student, acted
and sung her way through many school productions and as an adult, performed with several
local community theatre groups. Among her favorite productions are “Bye Bye Birdie” which
she performed with the Newton Country Players and “Gypsy” which she performed with the
Weston Friendly Society.
